Kelley, Lee Win Two Events Each in 125-79 Victory
CHESTER, PA -- Freshmen Spencer Kelley (Weston, CT/Weston) and Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) each won two individual events to lead visiting Washington College to a 125-79 non-conference men's swimming victory over host Widener this afternoon. The win was the first for the Shoremen (2-3) over the Pride (0-5) since a 110-95 victory on December 5th, 2000, breaking a streak of 10 straight losses in the series.
Kelley won the 100 freestyle in 49.97 and the 50 freestyle in 22.79, while Lee took the 200 individual medley in 2:04.86 and the 100 butterfly in 53.76. Senior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.25.
The Shoremen also won both relays as senior Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven), Auger, Lee, and freshman Steven Bilinski (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) won the 200 medley relay in 1:40.82 and freshman James Ray (Timonium, MD/Towson), Kelley, Longworth, and freshman Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.65.
Yocum placed second in both the 200 freestyle (1:49.53) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.25), while Ray was second in the 50 freestyle (23.27) and 100 freestyle (50.60). Longworth added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 58.00, while sophomore Robert Mix (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) was second in the 1000 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 11:00.56.
The Shoremen return to action January 14th with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Elizabethtown.
