Auger Wins Two Individual Events
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) won a pair of individual events and swam the breaststroke leg of the first-place 200 medley relay team as host Washington College defeated visiting McDaniel, 106-94, in Centennial Conference men's swimming action this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen, who improved to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in conference meets, picked up their first Centennial win of the season. McDaniel fell to 0-6, all in conference, with the loss.
Auger won the 200 individual medley in 2:07.41 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.41. Junior Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven), freshman Robert Mix (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East), and senior Tim Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) joined Auger in the 200 medley relay to win in 1:44.52.
Senior Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won the 200 butterfly in 2:04.60, a Washington College season-best time which made him the fifth-fastest swimmer in school history in the event. Longworth added a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke in a WC season-best time of 2:03.13.
Mix finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.84, while sophomore Robert Homer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) was second in the 50 freestyle in 23.61 and in the 200 backstroke in 2:15.97. Mix's third-place time of 2:22.65 in the 200 breaststroke made him Washington's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Swarthmore.
