Box Score 2 Kylie Nottingham Goes Yard In Game One And Totals Four Hits In DH
LANCASTER, PA – Visiting Washington College and host Franklin & Marshall split a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Baker Campus. The Shorewomen grabbed game one by an 11-5 score, while the Diplomats took game two, 7-1. The Shorewomen are 9-9 on the season, while the Diplomats go to 14-6 on the year. Both teams are 1-1 in the conference.
In game one, the Shorewomen scored twice in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) singled in junior Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) to put WC up 1-0. Sophomore Brittany Walter (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) would score on a double steal when F&M tried to throw out Shaelan Nottingham at second base for the second run of the inning.
The Shorewomen tallied four runs in the top of the third to take a 6-0 lead. Walter doubled to center and scored junior Leigh Carbutt (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) and Snover to make it 4-0. The next batter, freshman Kylie Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) cracked her first collegiate home run to left field and gave Washington a 6-0 lead. F&M would get on the board in the bottom half of the third when Alicia Kukoda scored on a passed ball.
Washington added a run in the top of the sixth when junior Jill Piasecki (Galena, MD/Kent County) brought home freshman Hilary Rosenberg (Sweetwater, NJ/Oakcrest) on a sacrifice fly to make it 7-1.
In the top of the seventh, the Shorewomen scored four times to take an 11-1 lead. Kylie Nottingham drove in Snover on a double to right to make it 8-1. Freshman Kelly Ward (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) scored on a passed ball to make it 9-1 and senior Becca Nicely (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored Kylie Nottingham and sophomore Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) on a two-run single to left to give WC a 10-run cushion. The Diplomats scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to provide the final margin.
For the visitors in game one, Kylie Nottingham went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace the WC attack. Freshman Lauren Dockrill (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) had three hits to lead all players, while Snover scored a game-best three runs. Walter went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Nicely drove in two teammates. In the circle, Walter got the victory and is now 5-4 on the year as she struck out six in tossing a complete game.
For the Diplomats, Malorie Sassaman went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the opener. Samantha Denoville and Liz Chudzik both tallied two hits in the game. Nicole Casey took the loss in the circle and falls to 6-4.
In game two, the Diplomats scored in each of the first three innings to grab a 6-0 lead. Julie Jefferson singled in Danielle Murphy to put the hosts up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. In the next inning, Murphy singled in Amanda Schellaci to make it 2-0 and Sassman chased home Megan Pauley to put the hosts up by three runs after two frames. In the third inning, Rachel Laufer scored on a throwing miscue to give the hosts a four-run lead and Schellaci homered to center to bring in Kukoda to make it 6-0 after three.
In the top of the fourth, Walter singled home Piasecki to get WC on the board and cut the lead to 6-1, but the Diplomats scored once in the bottom of the fifth on sacrifice fly by Jefferson that scored Pauley to make it 7-1 and provide the final margin.
For F&M in game two, Pauley and Sassaman both went 3-for-4 with Pauley scoring twice. Schellaci, Kukoda and Murphy all had two hits with Schellaci scoring twice and plating two. Pitcher Kaitlin Zamprino got the win and is now 5-2 on the year as she allowed just five hits, one earned run and fanned three in recording the win.
Kylie Nottingham was 2-for-3 in game two for Washington. In the circle, junior Meaghan Kimme (Lumberton, NJ/Holy Cross) took the loss and drops to 3-3.
Washington returns to action on Tuesday with a Centennial Conference double-header at Haverford. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
