Daller Posts Win at No. 6 Singles
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Johns Hopkins, the 13th-ranked team in Division III and fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, took sole possession of first place in the Centennial Conference with an 8-1 women's tennis win over host Washington College, the region's 14th-ranked team, this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Blue Jays improved to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play with the win. The loss was the first of the year for the Shorewomen, who fell to 11-1 and 6-1.
Hopkins won all three doubles matches as Hailey Hogan and Nandita Krishnan handed WC juniors Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]), the region's seventh-ranked doubles team, their first loss of the spring by an 8-2 count at No. 1. Abby Dwyer and Carolyn Warren were 8-6 winners over freshman Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and sophomore Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) at No. 2, while Courtney Boger and Abby Clark posted an 8-3 win over sophomore Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and freshman Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) at No. 3.
In singles, Warren, the region's fourth-ranked player, beat Bercovici, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1, while Krishnan, the region's 10th-ranked singles player, downed Finnegan, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, to clinch the win for Hopkins. Hogan, ranked 11th in the region in singles, added a 6-1, 6-4, win over Marshall, ranked 15th, at No. 3. Ariel Several downed McNicol, 8-2, at No. 4, while Clark beat Cohen, 8-2, at No. 5. Daller picked up the Shorewomen's point with an 8-6 victory over Yoko Hirase at No. 6.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Haverford.
