Box Score Harryman Makes 12 Saves in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Goalkeeping ruled the day as visiting 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins topped host Washington College, 1-0, in the Centennial Conference field hockey opener for both teams Saturday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Blue Jays improved to 4-2 overall with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 1-4.
Hopkins goalkeeper Kim Stein made 12 saves in the shutout for Hopkins, while sophomore goalkeeper Steph Harryman (Churchton, MD/Southern) made an equal number for the Shorewomen. Each team also had the benefit of a defensive save - Zoe Koven made a key stop for Hopkins with 11:28 left, while senior defender Emily Broomell (East Petersburg, PA/Lancaster Christian) made one for Washington with 9:23 to go.
The Shorewomen took the first six shots of the game, but the Blue Jays scored the game's only goal as Annie Shepard scored on a rebound of her own shot with 24:48 left in the first half.
Each team recorded 21 shots in the game. Hopkins had a 16-12 advantage in penalty corners, including a 12-5 margin in the second half.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Bryn Mawr.
