Yocum Places Second in Two Events
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Dickinson College defeated host Washington College, 125-68, in a Centennial Conference men's swim meet this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. Freshman Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) finished second in two individual events for the Shoremen in the loss, while freshman James Ray (Timonium, MD/Towson) became the Shoremen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 backstroke.
Yocum was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.31 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:09.56. Ray placed fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.23, but that time was good enough to rank him ninth all-time at WC in the event.
Sophomore Robert Mix (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) added a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 10:57.03, while freshman Steven Bilinski (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) placed second in the 100 freestyle in 51.31.
Dickinson entered the final two events of the meet as exhibition entrants only. Washington sophomore Tad Derrick (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) received the first-place points in the 200 breaststroke, posting the third-fastest time in the event at 2:27.36. Yocum, Bilinksi, senior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley), and freshman Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) received the first-place points in the 400 freestyle relay with the second-best time - 3:27.02
The Shoremen (3-4, 0-3 Centennial) return to action Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Swarthmore.
