Box Score Cabot Makes Seven Saves in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Twelfth-ranked Swarthmore College topped host Washington College, 2-0, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Garnet improved to 12-1-2 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 5-9 and 3-5 with the loss.
Swarthmore held a 7-4 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in shots on goal in the scoreless first half.
Jack Momeyer broke the scoreless tie for the Garnet, stealing the ball from a defender in the middle of the box and driving it in the back of the goal at 64:47. The Garnet withstood a number of Washington scoring chances down the stretch before tacking on an insurance goal by Michael Stewart with five seconds to go in the game.
The Garnet finished the game with a 20-8 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. All five Swarthmore corner kicks came in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) made seven saves in the loss for the Shoremen, while Peter Maxted made three in the win for the Garnet.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with their season finale, a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Johns Hopkins.
