Freshman Cracks Washington's All-Time Top 10 List in Three Events During 140-112 Loss to Gettysburg
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Freshman Lucas Morgan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) cracked the school's all-time top 10 list in three events as the host Washington College men's swim team dropped its 2012-13 season opener, 140-112, to visiting Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference dual meet this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The Bullets (3-0, 1-0 Centennial) won eight of the meet's first 12 events before entering the final two as exhibitions only.
Morgan won the 1000 freestyle and 200 breaststroke and received the first-place points in the 200 individual medley after touching second behind a Gettysburg exhibition entrant. He swam a 10:24.66 in the 1000 freestyle to become the Shoremen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, a 2:17.20 in the 200 breaststroke to become the Shoremen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, and a 2:01.57 in the 200 individual medley to become the Shoremen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event.
Fellow freshmen Charles Logan (Durham, NC/Riverside) and Chris Kelly (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) also had impressive collegiate debuts for the Shoremen. Logan was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.63 and became the Shoremen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 backstroke with his third-place time of 56.51. Kelly won the 200 butterfly in 2:12.99.
Sophomore Greg Lee (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial), an All-Centennial Conference performer last season, picked up right where he left off. Lee won the 100 butterfly in 53.81 and was second in the 50 freestyle in 22.55. Sophomore Steven Bilinski (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:14.28, while sophomore Austin Yocum (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.15.
Bilinski, freshman Sean Stevens (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial), Lee, and Yocum received the first-place points in the 200 freestyle after finishing in 1:30.49, second only to a Gettysburg exhibition entry.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference meet at Salisbury.
