Snover Records 100th Career Hit in Win Over Lake Forest

KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team split a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, today. Senior third baseman Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) drove in what would prove to be the game-winning run with her 100th career hit as the Shorewomen (3-4) defeated Lake Forest, 6-5, in their first game of the day. In their second game of the day, the Shorewomen fell to 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament participant Montclair State, 2-0.

In the Shorewomen's early game, Lake Forest got on the board first, scoring four runs with two outs in the top of the second inning. Kassie Marsala drove in the first run with a double and Megan Harkins plated the next three with a three-run double. The Shorewomen took the lead by plating five runs in the bottom half of the frame on a sacrifice fly by junior center fielder Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg), an RBI single by freshman right fielder Christine Anderson (Palmer Lake, CO/Lewis-Palmer), and RBI singles by freshman designated player Kelsey Graham (Dunkirk, MD/Northern), sophomore catcher Kyle Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur), and sophomore first baseman Lauren Dockrill (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic). 

The Foresters tied the score in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Nikki Miller. The Shorewomen regained the lead for good when Snover hit an RBI double for her 100th career hit in the bottom of the fifth. Lake Forest threatened in the sixth inning, getting two runners on with one out, but a delayed double steal turned into an inning-ending double play as Washington got out of the jam.

Senior Jill Piasecki (Galena, MD/Kent County) got the win in relief for the Shorewomen, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in two and two-third innings of work. Anderson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI for the Shorewomen, while Dockrill and Snover each had two hits, a run, and an RBI. Graham was 1-for-2 with two sacrifice bunts, one run, and one RBI. Miller and Marsala were the only Foresters with multiple hits as they each went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.   

In Washington's second game of the day, Montclair State scored the game's only two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Paulino and an RBI single by Katie Muglia. 

Jamie Miller got the win for Montclair State, allowing no runs on four hits and no walks in six innings of work. Alex Hill was credited with the save after allowing no hits or walks in the seventh inning. Junior Brittany Walter (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) was the tough-luck loser in the loss for the Shorewomen, allowing two runs on just three hits and three walks in six innings of work.

The Shorewomen continue play at the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow when they will play Anderson and Rutgers-Camden in Kissimmee at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
