Snover Drives in Winning Run Against Rutgers-Camden

KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team split a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, today. The Shorewomen (4-5) lost their first game of the day to Anderson University, 4-3, but won their second, 3-2, over Rutgers-Camden on a walk-off sacrifice fly by senior third baseman Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park).

The Shorewomen scored in the first inning against Anderson as freshman left fielder Kelsey Graham (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an error. The Ravens plated three runs in the bottom of the second to take a two-run lead on a two-run triple by Tori Price and an RBI single by Katie Lee. The Shorewomen evened things up in the top of the third on a two-run double by freshman shortstop Suzanne Patinella (Fallston, MD/Maryvale Prep), but the Ravens pulled back in front for good in the bottom of the frame on an inside-the-park home run by Lauren Smith.

Amy Wuestefeld went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases for Anderson, while Lee was 2-for-4 and Price went 2-for-3. Smith got the win in relieft, pitching the final four and two-third innings and allowing no runs on three hits and a walk. Patinella went 2-for-3 for the Shorewomen in the loss, while sophomore first baseman Lauren Dockrill (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) was 2-for-3.

In the Shorewomen's second game of the day, Rutgers-Camden took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a bases-loaded walk by Lauren Hatzelhoffer. Washington evened the score in the bottom of third on an RBI double by freshman right fielder Christine Anderson (Palmer Lake, CO/Lewis Palmer), but Rutgers-Camden went back in front in the top of the fifth when Hatzelhoffer scored on an error. Washington tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Claire Mattox (Arlington, VA/Potomac School) scored on an error. Junior center fielder Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and Snover followed with her game-winning sacrifice fly to right center.

Anderson was the only player in the game with multiple hits, finishing with two doubles in three at bats. Senior Jill Piasecki (Galena, MD/Kent County) held Rutgers-Camden two two runs, only one of them earned, on two hits and four walks in picking up the win.

The Shorewomen continue play at the Rebel Spring Games Thursday when they will play Centenary (NJ) and Framingham State in Kissimmee at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
