Ellison, Lisco Post Singles Wins
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Franklin & Marshall College won at the top two doubles spots and top four singles spots en route to a 6-3 Centennial Conference men's tennis victory over host Washington College this afternoon inside Johnson Fitness Center. The Diplomats improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Centennial Conference matches with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-4 and 1-1 with the loss.
F&M won at the top two doubles spots to take a 2-1 lead. William MacArthur and Ross Silverberg beat senior Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) and senior Kevin Papen (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney), 8-6, at No. 1, while Tommy Weibye and Nolan Bacchieri bested sophomore Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and freshman Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's), 9-8(6), at No. 2. Washington won at No. 3, where freshman Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and graduate student Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) defeated Cameron Relic and Peter Bookman, 8-3.
The Diplomats extended their lead to 4-1 with a Weibye victory over Rajes, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 and a Bacchieri win against Cywinski, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4. F&M clinched the victory when MacArthur finished a 7-6(5), 6-4, win over Boaté at No. 3. Washington picked up its second point with a 6-1, 6-0, win by Ellison over Relic at No. 5. Silverberg defeated Papen in a three-set match at No. 1, 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-2, and Washington senior Kyle Lisco (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) beat Alec Tunner, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 to provide the final margin.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Haverford.
