Kylie Nottingham Goes 3-for-4 in Opener

GLASSBORO, NJ -- 17th-ranked host Rowan University swept a non-conference double-header from visiting Washington College this afternoon in Glassboro, NJ. The Profs (4-0) held off the Shorewomen (1-3), 8-7, in the first game and posted a 5-0 shutout in the second game, which was limited to five innings due to darkness.

In the opener, Rowan took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Hannah Shontz scored on a wild pitch with two outs. The Profs added their second run when Stephanie Labas homered to left field with one out in the bottom of the third.

Washington got a run back in the top of the fourth inning as sophomore first baseman Lauren Dockrill (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) led off the inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman designated player Suzanne Patinella (Fallston, MD/Maryvale Prep) two batters later.

The Profs plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth as Nicolina Veneziano drove in Nicole Escudero with a single to right field, Ashley Minch hit a two-run single to center field, and Julie Leskanic drove in Labas with a single. 

The Shorewomen cut the lead to 6-4 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Junior shortstop Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) drove in freshman right fielder Christine Anderson (Palmer Lake, CO/Lewis-Palmer) and junior second baseman Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) with a bases-loaded single and scored two batters later on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Kylie Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur). Washington pulled to within one run when freshman Kelsey Graham (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) led off the top of the sixth with a walk and scored on an error three batters later to trim the lead to 6-5. 

Rowan added a pair of runs on a two-out, two-run single by Julie Leskanic in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 8-5. Kylie Nottingham hit a two-out double in the top of the seventh and scored on a double by Patinella to pull Washington back to within two runs. Patinella then scored when Graham reach on an error to cut the lead to 8-7. Rowan pitcher Katie Trotter got Shaelan Nottingham to ground out, however, to end the game. 

Leskanic, Labas, and Veneziano each had two hits for the Profs in the win. Jamie Minix got the win in the circle, allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters in five innings of work. Trotter was credited with a save, allowing three runs, one of them earned, on two hits and a walk. Kylie Nottingham finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Shorewomen. 

In game two, Rowan took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Leskanic with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. The Profs added a second run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Escudero. A two-run home run by Labas in the bottom of the third pushed the lead to 4-0. The Profs added another run in the fourth when Veneziano drove in Lauren Davis with a single. 

Minch and Davis each went 2-for-2 in the second game for Rowan. LeAnne Miller got the win, allowing no runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six batters. Anderson was the only Shorewoman with multiple hits in game two, going 2-for-3. 

The Shorewomen return to action Sunday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL.  They will play Defiance at 9:00 a.m. and Otterbein at 11:00 a.m.
