COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team improved to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in Centennial Conference play with a 7-2 win over host Ursinus College this afternoon in Collegeville, PA. The Bears fell to 8-7 and 1-3 with the loss.
The Shoremen took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Sophomore Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and freshman Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) defeated Matt Hope and Dylan Marsh, 8-0, at No. 2, while freshman Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and graduate student Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) bested Mike Melchiorre and Logan Metcalf-Kelly, 8-4, at No. 2. Ursinus won at No. 1 as Evan Lord and Evan Stuchin topped senior Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) and senior Kevin Papen (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney), 9-7.
In singles, Stuchin beat Papen, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1, but the Shoremen won at the other five spots. Ellison downed Lord, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5, at No. 2, Boaté beat Hope, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3, and Cywinski defeated Marsh, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4. Senior Kyle Lisco (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) added a 6-3, 6-0, victory over Logan Metcalf-Kelly at No. 5, while sophomore Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) topped Melchiorre, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Dickinson.
