Box Score 2 Dockrill Goes 3-For-4 With Three RBI and Two Runs Scored In Game Two
CARLISLE, PA – Visiting Washington College and host Dickinson split a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Dickinson Park. The Red Devils won game one by a 4-3 score in nine innings, while the Shorewomen rebounded to take game two, 7-2. Washington is now 15-12 overall and 7-3 in the conference, while the Red Devils are 6-18 and 2-4 respectively.
In game two, the Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when senior Sally Snover (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) doubled home sophomore Lauren Dockrill (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic). The Red Devils tied it in the last of the second when Carly Jordan stole third base and scored on an error to knot it at 1-1.
Washington made it 2-1 in the top of the third when Dockrill singled home sophomore Kylie Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur).
The Shorewomen blew open game two with a four-run top of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Junior Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) scored on an error by Dickinson to make it 3-1. Dockrill delivered Kylie Nottingham and freshman Kristin Cooper (Georgetown, DE/Sussex Central) on a double to make it 5-1. Dockrill would come home on a two-bagger by junior Shaelan Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) to cap the rally and give the guests a five-run bulge.
Dickinson got one run back in the last of the fifth when Katie Swade scored on a double by Erin Owens to cut it to 6-2. However, the Shorewomen restored their five-run cushion in the top of the sixth to make it 7-2 and provide the final margin.
Dockrill sparked the WC with a 3-for-4, three RBI, two run effort, while Kylie Nottingham went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. The Shorewomen had nine hits in game two. In the circle, senior Jill Piasecki (Galena, MD/Kent County) got the win and improves to 6-3. She went six innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, one earned, walking two and striking out three to get the win.
Dickinson, who had seven hits in game two, had two players get two hits in the nightcap, Owens and Denise Haines. In the circle, Chelsea Homa got the loss and falls to 3-6. She tossed a complete game, allowing nine hits, seven runs, four earned, walking one and fanning five.
In game one, Washington scored three times in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Glascock scored on an error to make it 1-0 WC. Freshman Suzanne Patinella (Fallston, MD/Maryvale Prep) launched a two-run home run to give the Shorewomen a 3-0 lead.
In the last of the fourth, the Red Devils got on the board when Haines hit a solo homer to trim the lead to 3-1 with two away. In the bottom half of the fifth, Dickinson cut the lead to 3-2 on a two-out single by Swade to plate Melissa Osborn.
The Red Devils tied it in the bottom of seventh at 3-3. Osborn led off with a double and was pinch ran for by Reiva Keith. After the next two hitters were retired, Swade singled home Keith to even the game.
Dickinson won the game in the bottom of the ninth when with two outs Stephanie Hammond singled home Osborn for the walk-off run.
For the Red Devils, Osborn was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Swade was 2-for-3 with two RBI. In the circle, Home got the win and improves to 3-5. She went all nine innings, allowing five hits, three runs, two earned, walking three and striking out 13.
Patinella drove in a pair on her home run for WC. In the circle, Cooper went the distance but took the loss and drops to 7-3. She went 8 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits, four runs, three earned. She only walked one, while punching out six.
The Shorewomen step out of conference on Wednesday afternoon as they host #20 Salisbury in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
