Shorewomen Hold 20-Rebound Advantage in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College held a 56-36 rebounding advantage in a 62-48 Centennial Conference women's basketball win over visiting Franklin & Marshall tonight inside Cain Athletic Center.

The Shorewomen (10-9, 8-6 Centennial) led by as many as 11 points in the first half and took a 29-24 lead into the intermission. 

Washington held a 31-28 lead with under 16 minutes to go in the second half before running off nine unanswered points to build a 40-28 lead on a lay-up by freshman forward Carley Kendall (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) with 12:03 remaining. The Shorewomen led by at least nine points the rest of the way.

Washington rebounded just over half of its misses during the game, pulling down 24 offensive rebounds to F&M's 23 defensive rebounds. The Shorewomen finished the contest with a 16-9 advantage in second-chance points.

Freshman guard Dee Maddox (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Collegiate) came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points for Washington, shooting 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. Junior forwards Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River and Erin Fitzgerald (Greensboro, NC/Bishop McGuiness) led the rebounding effort with 13 and 11, respectively. The two combined for 15 offensive rebounds - two more than F&M had as a team. Pledger and Fitzgerald also scored eight points each, while Fitzgerald also blocked four shots. Kendall scored a career-high nine points in the win.

Alexa Barbush and Elizabeth Snyder scored a game-high 14 points each for the Diplomats (7-13, 4-11). Barbush also swiped three steals.

The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Haverford.
