Mules' Second-Half Goals Lead to 3-1 Win Over Shoremen

Stiles Scores First Collegiate Goal in Loss

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- A pair of second-half goals propelled host Muhlenberg College to a 3-1 Centennial Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Allentown, Pa. The Mules improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 5-5-1 and 0-3-1 with the loss. 

Jeremy Katz put the Mules on the board with a goal off an assist from Brendan McIntyre at 31:52. The Shoremen tied the score just under 10 minutes later when freshman defender Derek Stiles (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) scored his first collegiate goal off a give-and-go with junior midfielder Brandon Wilfong (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) at 41:44.

Muhlenberg took the lead for good on an unassisted goal by Jonathan Schauer at 59:03. The Mules added an insurance goal when Jeff Reinhart sent a cross into the center of the box to Lance Dotzman, who headed the ball into the back of the net at 65:02.

The Mules held an 11-8 edge in shots and a 9-7 advantage in corner kicks in the game. Ellison Heil made two saves for the Mules, while sophomore goalkeeper David Myers (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made a pair of saves for the Shoremen.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Division II Georgian Court.
