GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Host Gettysburg College, the defending Centennial Conference Men's Swimming Champion, took first and second in the final event of the afternoon to hold off a game Washington College squad en route to a 110.5-93.5 win this afternoon. The Bullets improved to 3-0 overall with the win, while the Shoremen fell in their season opener. Freshman Brent Hochstein (Townsend, Del./Salesianum School) won three individual events for the Shoremen in the loss, placing his name among the program's 10-fastest swimmers ever in those events.
Gettysburg held a slim 95.5-91.5 lead heading into the meet's final event - the 400 yard freestyle relay - before taking the top two spots in the race to claim the wider margin of victory.
Hochstein's first collegiate win came in the 200 individual medley, which he won in 2:00.83 to become Washington's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. He then won the 200 butterfly in 2:02.29 to become the Shoremen's sixth-fastest swimmer in the event and the 500 freestyle in 4:58.70 to become their 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Junior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) won the 200 freestyle in 1:46.46 for Washington.
Sophomore transfer Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal), who swam for Division II Delta State last season, placed second in the 50 freestyle in 22.29 and tied for second in the 100 freestyle in 48.88 for the Shoremen. His time in the 100 freestyle made him the Shoremen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in the event.
Freshman Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) added a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:03.14, becoming the Shoremen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in the event. He also led off the 400 medley relay with a 55.60 backstroke leg to become the program's 10th-fastest 100-backstroke swimmer ever. Freshman Danny Furman (Glen Arm, Md./Calvert Hall) chipped in a second-place finish behind Hochstein in the 200 butterfly in 2:09.91.
