Yocum, 200 Medley Relay Set New Casey Swim Center Marks

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- A pair of Casey Swim Center records fell as the host Washington College men's swim team defeated Eastern Shore rival Salisbury, 124-76, in a non-conference meet this evening. The victory was the Shoremen's (1-1) 22nd in 24 all-time meetings with the Sea Gulls (1-3).

Sophomore Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside), sophomore Eric Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Lebanon Valley), junior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), and sophomore Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a pool-record time of 1:38.06. The second pool record of the night fell just two events later when junior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) won the 200 freestyle in 1:45.87. Yocum also won the 100 freestyle in 48.36 to become the Shoremen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Sophomore Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J../Northern Highlands Regional) turned in the top time in all three of his events. He won the 1000 freestyle in 10:19.55 and the 500 freestyle in 5:00.25. After Washington built a sizable lead with two events remaining, the Shoremen switched their final entrants to non-scoring exhibitions. In that role, Morgan recorded the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in a personal-best 1:01.84.

Freshman Brent Hochstein (Townsend, Del./Salesianum School) won two events and was second in another. He won the 100 backstroke in 54.55 to become the Shoremen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, finished first in the 200 individual medley in 2:00.26 to become their seventh-fastest ever in that event, and placed second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:29.47 to become the team's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Longenecker won the 100 butterfly in 52.20, becoming the Shoremen's third-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Washington also turned in the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay as Yocum, Lee, freshman Jason Mercando (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), and Longenecker finished in 1:29.44 as an exhibition.

Freshman Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) had a pair of individual second-place finishes, finishing the 200 freestyle in 1:48.98 to become the Shoremen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event, and finishing the 100 backstroke in 55.30. Logan added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 22.88, Lee was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.36, and senior Robert Mix (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:16.18. Swimming as an exhibition in the 100 breaststroke, Burcin turned in the second-fastest time of the race in 1:02.63.

The Shoremen return to action November 16th with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Franklin & Marshall.
