Box Score 2 Lindsey Glascock Scores Walk-Off Run To Complete Rally Versus Bridgewater
KISSIMMEE, FL – Senior Lindsey Glascock (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) scored the walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete a comeback that turned a 7-2 deficit into an 8-7 victory over Bridgewater in the second game of the day at Osceola County Sports Complex on Thursday afternoon in non-conference softball action at the Rebel Spring Games. The Shorewomen, who lost earlier in the day to Mount Union, 8-2, are now 9-2 on the year.
In game two versus Bridgewater (6-6), Washington entered the bottom of the sixth inning down 7-2 and scored four times to cut the lead to 7-6. The Shorewomen loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth and into the game came Brianna Cox to pitch for starter Aven Thomas for the Eagles. Glascock drove in junior Lauren Dockrill (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) on a RBI groundout to shortstop to cut the lead to 7-3. With one out, freshman Sadie Robertson (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) came home on an infield hit to shortstop by freshman Paige Briganti (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) to trim the Bridgewater lead to three runs. Clare Hofstedt (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) chased home sophomore Suzanne Patinella (Fallston, MD/Maryvale Prep) on a 3-2 pitch infield hit down the first base line to cut the lead to 7-5. Briganti scored to make it 7-6 when Hofstedt was caught in a run down to cut the Eagles lead to just one run.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Shorewomen were down to their last out when Patinella singled up the middle on a 1-1 pitch to score freshman pinch-runner Jennifer Hanner (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) from second base to knot the game at 7-7 and sent the game to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Kasey Anderson was placed on second base due to the international tie breaker rule and moved up to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Cox. However, Karie Burgess popped up a bunt and Kasey Anderson was doubled off as freshman's Jaclyn Jayo (Peoria, AZ/Liberty) throw to junior Kylie Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) to third to complete the double play.
In the last of the eighth, Glascock was placed on second base per the rule and reached third on a bunt single by Briganti. After a Hofstedt hit to third to load the bases where Glascock did not advance, Kylie Nottingham hit into a fielder's choice, but Glascock was able to score the walk-off run to give WC a split on the day.
In the top of the first inning, Burgess doubled home Kasey Anderson one a one-out double to left to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.
Washington took the lead with a pair of runs in the last of the second with one away. Anderson scored on a bases loaded walk to Glasock on a full count pitch to tie the game at 1-1 with one out. Jayo made it 2-1 WC when she scored on a single off the bat of Briganti.
The Eagles took control of the game with a six-run top half of the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Kasey Anderson plated Leigh Lam, who had reached on a fielding error, on an infield single to shortstop in the top of the fifth with one out to even the game at 2-2. The next hitter, pinch-hitter Melanie Lamb doubled on a 0-2 pitch to score Morgan Williams and Anderson to give Bridgewater a 4-2 lead. Burgess singled home Lamb on a two-base hit down the left field line to make it 5-2 and it chased starting sophomore pitcher Christine Anderson (Palmer Lake, CO/Lewis-Palmer). Amanda Lutz scored on a bases loaded walk to Heather Jenkins to make it 6-2. Lam drove in Lutz on an infield hit to third base to increase the lead to 7-2 and that capped the scoring in the frame.
For Washington, Briganti was 4-for-4 with two RBI as Washington had 11 hits in the win. Hofstedt and Patinella each had two hits, while Glascock drove in two RBI in the victory. In the circle, sophomore Kristin Cooper (Georgetown, DE/Sussex Central) got the win to improve to 6-1 on the season. She tossed the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on three hits. Cooper struck out three and walked four.
For Bridgewater, which had nine hits in the game, got two hits from Kasey Anderson, Burgess, Lam and Lamb, while Burgess and Lamb each knocked in two runners. Kasey Anderson scored twice for the Eagles and was the only player to score twice in the ballgame. Pitching wise, Cox took the loss in relief and falls to 0-2 as she tossed the final two innings of the game as she gave up three runs, one earned.
Against Mount Union (6-2), the Purple Raiders broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Marissa Earl doubled home Kristen Gromes with one out to make it 1-0. Mount Union loaded the bases with two outs, but a fielder's choice kept the game at 1-0.
Washington scored twice in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Dockrill singled home Hofstedt with one out to tie the game at 1-1 and sophomore Kristin Cooper (Georgetown, DE/Sussex Central) singled home Kylie Nottingham on a squeeze play bunt to put the Shorewomen ahead 2-1 with one away.
The Purple Raiders knotted the game at 2-2 when with two outs on a Leigh Siedlak home run. Two batters later, Alex Mayo doubled home Tara Spencer to give Mount Union a 3-2 lead. Spencer came in for Megan Okuda, who kept the frame alive with a single. Then Andi VanSickle plated Mayo on a two-bagger to make it 4-2.
Mount Union put the game away with a four-run last of the sixth on a pair of two-run hits by Shelby Carmichael and Okuda. Carmichael's was a single and Okuda's was a double and both came with one out.
In the circle for Mount Union, Rachel McAninch got the win to improve to 4-1 on the year. She scattered 10 hits in going the distance, striking out seven and giving up just two earned runs. At the plate, Van Sickle had a game-high three hits, while Carmichael, Earl and Okuda had two hits each. Carmichael and Okuda drove in two, while Gromes and Siedlak scored twice. The Purple Raiders had 12 hits as a team.
For Washington, Cooper took the loss and is now 5-1. At the plate Kylie Nottingham and Dockrill had two hits each.
Tomorrow morning, Washington plays Albion at 9:00 a.m. and St. Norbert at 11:00 a.m. in its final two games at the Rebel Spring Games.
