Graham With RBI Single In Game Two For WC

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Visiting #11 Rowan took a pair of games from host Washington College on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Washington College Softball Field.  The Profs took game one, 7-0, and grabbed game two by a 7-1 score in six innings that was called due to darkness.  The Profs are now 26-4 on the year, while the Shorewomen slide to 19-10.

In game one, Rowan took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning when Jennifer Arcella hit a home run to lead off the inning to put the guests up 1-0.  The Profs would score five times in the top of the sixth to make it 6-0, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Arcella with nobody out that made it 3-0 and a two-run single by Krysti Maronski with two outs to cap the scoring in the frame.  In the top of the seventh, Rowan scored one run to provide the final margin.

Arcella was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the first game as the Profs had six hits.  Snead scored a pair and Maronski had two RBI.  In the circle, LeAnne Miller went the entire way to record the complete game shutout.  She scatted five hits, walked three and struck out 10.  She stranded 10 WC runners on base in the game to improve to 15-1 on the year.

Juniors, Kylie Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) and Hilary Rosenberg (Sweetwater, NJ/Oakcrest) both had two hits for Washington.  The team had five hits in the contest.  Pitching wise, sophomore Kristin Cooper (Georgetown, DE/Sussex Central) took the loss and dropped to 11-6.  She went the entire way, giving up six hits, walking none and striking out six.  Cooper allowed seven runs, but only two were earned as the Shorewomen committed six errors in the field.

In game two, the Profs scored in the top half of the second with one out when Meagan Lee scored on a throwing error to put Rowan ahead 1-0.  Washington countered in the bottom of the second when sophomore Kelsey Graham (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) singled up the middle with two outs to plate sophomore Christine Anderson (Palmer Lake, CO/Lewis-Palmer)

Rowan took the lead for good in the top of the third with two away when Lee singled through the left side to score Jess Phillips to make it 2-1.  The Profs would score a single run in the top half of the fourth and fifth innings and scored three times in the top of the sixth to provide the final margin.  The game was called after the sixth inning due to darkness.

Lee sparked the Rowan offense in game two with a 3-for-4, two RBI effort as the Profs had nine hits.  Phillips scored twice for the Profs in the nightcap.  Pitching wise, Maronski got the win to go to 9-1 on the campaign.  She allowed five hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out two.

Anderson took the loss for Washington as she fell to 6-4.  She allowed seven runs, but only two were earned on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts.  The Shorewomen committed seven errors in the field, while the Profs had only one.

The Shorewomen return to Centennial action on Saturday with a 1:00 road doubleheader at Gettysburg.
