Shoremen Dodge Bullets, 7-2

Shoremen Sweep Doubles Play in Win

GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team upped its record to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in Centennial Conference play with a 7-2 win over host Gettysburg this afternoon. The Shoremen swept doubles play and won the bottom four singles spots in the match.

Junior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [FL]) and sophomore Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) scored a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Chris Curran and Dave Muser. Sophomores Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall) also won by a two-game margin in doubles, besting Mike Pratt and James Salierno, 8-6, at No. 2. Junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township) added an 8-2 win over Johnny Nelson and Kevin Roveda at No. 3.

In singles, Boaté topped Pratt, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3, Holtschneider downed Scott Johnson, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4, Novick beat Kyle Shope, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 5, and Pearson defeated Nelson, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6. The Bullets got a 7-6(5), 6-3, win by Curran over Rajes at No. 1 and a 6-4, 6-0, victory by Musser over Cywinski at No. 2.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Swarthmore.
