#8 Blue Jays Blank Shoremen, 9-0

Team Plays Season Finale

BALTIMORE, MD – Host #8 Johns Hopkins blanked visiting Washington College, 9-0, on Saturday at the Tennis Courts at Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference men's tennis action.  The Blue Jays improve to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in the conference, while the Shoremen conclude their season at 6-11 and 3-6 respectively.

The Blue Jays, ranked #2 in the ITA Atlantic South Region, took all three doubles to take a 3-0 lead.  At #1 doubles, Noah Joachim and Jeff Kamei of Hopkins downed the team of Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton (FL) by an 8-0 score.  At #2 doubles, Edward Corty and Jeremy Schwartz of the hosts topped the visiting tandem of sophomore Dan Boaté (West Chester, PA/Reed Henderson) and sophomore Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall), 8-4.  At third doubles, the Blue Jays' duo of David Greenbaum and German Gonzalez topped the Shoremen team of junior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and senior Andrew Pearson (Flourtown, PA/Springfield Township), 8-3.

At singles, Johns Hopkins took all six singles matches en route to the 9-0 win.  At #4 singles, Greenbaum downed Holtschneider, 7-5 and 7-6 as Greenbaum took the second set tiebreaker, 7-1.  At #5 singles, Nathan Law downed Novick, 6-1 and 6-2.  At #6 singles, Joonas Karjalainen best Pearson, 6-1 and 6-2.  At #1 singles, Andy Hersh, ranked sixth in the region for the Blue Jays, downed Rajes, 6-0 and 6-0.  Schwartz downed Cywinski at #2 singles, 6-0 and 6-0, and at #3 singles, Corty topped Boaté, 6-0 and 6-0.

Pearson was the Shoremen's lone senior on the team this year and played in his final match this afternoon.
