Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Ben Beaver scored the game's only goal to lift visiting Franklin & Marshall over host Washington College in the Centennial Conference men's soccer opener for both schools this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Diplomats remained unbeaten this season with the win, improving to 6-0-1 overall, while the Shoremen fell to 5-2 overall. F&M has yet to allow a goal this season.
Each team tallied five shots in a scoreless first half as Washington sophomore goalkeeper David Myers (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made a diving stop to his right for the only save of the period.
Beaver scored the only goal of the game at 78:36 when he scored on a loose ball in the box following an errant Washington College clearing attempt. The goal was his seventh of the season. The Shoremen's final shot on goal came at 84:04, but a header by senior midfielder Sam Wild (Chalfont, Pa./Centrals Bucks West) was saved by Franklin & Marshall goalkeeper T.J. White.
F&M finished with a 13-7 advantage in shots in the game. Each team recorded five corner kicks. Myers made three saves in the loss for Washington, while White made one for the Diplomats.
The Shoremen are back in action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Catholic.
