Morgan, Hochstein Win Two Individual Events Each
CHESTER, Pa. -- The Washington College men's swim team won nine of 11 events en route to a 131-72 non-conference win over host Widener University tonight in Chester, Pa. The Shoremen improved to 4-1 with the win, while the Pride slipped to 3-7 with the loss.
Freshman Brent Hochstein (Townsend, Del./Salesianum School) and sophomore Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J../Northern Highlands Regional) each won two individual events for the Shoremen. Hochstein took the 200 individual medley in 2:01.85 and the 500 freestyle in 5:05.82, while Morgan won the 1000 freestyle in 10:35.32 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.93. Morgan added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:05.73.
Freshman Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) and junior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) each won one individual event and finished second in another. Elliott won the 100 backstroke in 54.01 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.88, while Yocum won the 200 freestyle in 1:48.13 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.98. Sophomore Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) added a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 22.57 and junior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) won the 100 butterfly in 53.72. Sophomore Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside), sophomore Eric Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Lebanon Valley), Lee, and Longenecker opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:39.04.
Burcin also placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.34. Freshman Jason Mercando (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:48.30, while freshman Danny Furman (Glen Arm, Md./Calvert Hall) placed second in the 100 butterfly in 57.54.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Elizabethtown.
