Washington College Sailing Places 9th at MAISA Women's Fall Champs

Washington Also 14th at Jesuit Open Interconference 

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Washington College sailing team finished ninth of 14 teams at the MAISA Women's Fall Championships, hosted by Navy, and 14th of 18 teams at the Jesuit Open Interconference, hosted by Fordham and Columbia, this weekend.

At the MAISA Women's Fall Championships, senior skipper Eleanor Conroy (West Dennis, Mass./Tabor Academy) and junior crew Alex Crawford (Annapolis, Md./Severna Park) were ninth in A Division, while sophomore skipper Hannah Schmidt (Trappe, Md./Easton) sailed with freshman crew Maura Matthews (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to place ninth in B Division. The best individual race finish was turned in by Conroy and Crawford, who placed second in race 14A. 

Georgetown, ranked 14th in the current Sailing World Women's Top 15, won the MAISA Women's Fall Championships, followed by ninth-ranked Navy in second and St. Mary's in third. Ten races sailed in each division on Saturday. The remaining four races in each division sailed on Sunday.

At the Jesuit Open Interconference, sophomore skipper Matt McDermaid (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) sailed with freshman crews Lindsey Arnstein (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and Griff Rodrigue (Fort Mill, S.C./Charlotte Catholic [N.C.]) to place 14th in A Division. In B Division, sophomore skipper Alex Smith (Wantagh, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) and freshman crew Allison Cochran (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) finished 14th.

St. Mary's, currently ranked 12th in the Sailing World Co-Ed Top 20, won the Jesuit Open, followed by 11th-ranked Navy in second and 18th-ranked Fordham in third. A total of six races in each division were completed at the Jesuit Open. Two A Division races were completed in challenging conditions on Saturday in rough conditions. The first B Division race sailed with conditions deteriorating, including gusts over 30 miles per hour. The remaining races sailed on Sunday.  

The Washington College sailing team will compete at the Moody Trophy, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, next weekend.
