Lee Tallies 14 Digs and Six Aces

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College hit .315 as a team to record a 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-13) victory over visiting Delaware Valley on Thursday evening at the Cain Athletic Center in a non-conference volleyball match.  The Shorewomen improve to 14-5 on the year, while the Aggies fall to 3-17.

The Shorewomen raced out to an 8-1 lead in the first set on a kill by sophomore outside hitter Alexis Jordan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge) en route to the 17-point victory.  Washington closed out the opening set on a service ace by sophomore defensive specialist Audrey Utchen (San Ramon, Calif./Monte Vista).  Washington hit .538 in the opening set.

The Aggies came out strong in the second set to jump out to a 12-3 lead on a service ace by Maria Cameron.  The Shorewomen would counter with a 7-0 run of their own to trim the lead to 12-10 on an attack error by Delaware Valley.  The guests answered with a 10 of the next 17 points to grab a 22-17 lead on a Cameron finisher.  But the hosts finished the set with an 8-0 run to pull out a three point victory.  WC took its first lead of the set at 23-22 on a kill by junior middle hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, N.J./Seneca).  Junior outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) completed the comeback and set with an ace.  During the 8-0 run, Lee had four aces, including three consecutive aces.

In the third set, Washington scored the first six points and never trailed as the hosts went on to a 12-point triumph.  The Shorewomen, who led by as many as 14 points in the third set at 22-8, clinched the set and match on a Lee kill.

Washington got match-highs of 14 digs and six aces from Lee, who matched her career-high in aces.  She just missed a double-double with nine kills.  Jordan tied Lee for team-best in kills with nine.  Freshman setter Taylor Horan (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) handed out a match-topping 28 assists.  The Shorewomen had 14 service aces as a team and in addition Lee's six, got three from Utchen and a pair from sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Rachel Baker (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and freshman setter Sarah Bentley (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown).

Cameron had 10 kills to lead all players for Delaware Valley, while Crystal Ronan had a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.

The Shorewomen are at home on Saturday for a tri-match beginning at 12:30 p.m. against Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference action.  Washington will play also at 4:30 p.m. in a non-conference match versus Lancaster Bible, with Muhlenberg and Lancaster Bible squaring off at 2:30 p.m.
