Morgan, Elliott, Hochstein Win Two Individual Events Each
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Visiting Washington College won 10 of 14 events and cruised to a 162-98 Centennial Conference dual-meet win over host Franklin & Marshall this afternoon in the men's swimming opener for both schools.
The Shoremen opened the meet by going one-two in the 200 medley relay and never looked back. Junior Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside), freshman Kevin Mackenzie (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]), senior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), and freshman Cody Weiler (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) won the race in 1:38.53, while sophomore Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]), junior Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional), sophomore Brent Hochstein (Towsend, Del./Salesianum School), and junior Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) placed second in 1:41.04.
Elliott, Morgan, and sophomore Brent Hochstein (Towsend, Del./Salesianum School) each won two individual events for the Shoremen. Elliott won the 100 backstroke in 55.61 and the 200 backstroke in 2:02.16. Morgan captured the 1000 freestyle in 10:21.65 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.24 and tacked on a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.77. Logan was second in a pair of individual events, the 100 backstroke in 55.65 and the 200 backstroke in 2:03.75. Longenecker was second in the 50 freestyle in 22.52, while Weiler was second in the 100 freestyle in 49.60. Mackenzie's third-place time of 1:01.83 in the 100 breaststroke was fast enough to make him the Shoremen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event.
The Shoremen closed out the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay as Weiler, Longenecker, Mackenzie, and Yocum posted a winning time of 1:29.37.
With the win, Washington extended its already school-record overall dual-meet win streak to 10. The Shoremen won nine straight dual meets to finish last season after dropping the season opener to Gettysburg.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Salisbury.
