Drury Season-High 20 Points

SALISBURY, Md. – Host Salisbury had four players score in double figures en route to a 75-56 win over visiting Washington College at the Maggs Physical Activities Center on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's basketball contest.  The Sea Gulls improve to 3-4 overall, while the Shoremen fall to 1-6.

In the first half, the teams were tied 5-5 with 17:43 left in the first half when the Sea Gulls scored the next six points to take an 11-5 lead with 14:14 to play in the opening stanza on a Wyatt Smith dunk.  The six unanswered points would ignite a 22-6 run to give the Sea Gulls a 27-11 lead with 5:27 to go in the half on a Gordon Jeter lay-in.  Salisbury would take a 38-18 lead into halftime as Justin Witmer hit a three-pointer from the right corner just before the buzzer and it would be Salisbury's biggest lead of the half.

In the second half, Salisbury pushed its lead to as many as 25 with 17:29 remaining in the contest on two Justin Savercool free throws.  The closest Washington would come the rest of the way was at 16 points with 9:02 to go on a layup by freshman guard Tas Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Harriton) to trim the hosts' lead to 54-38.  The Shoremen did outscore the Sea Gulls in the second by a 38-37 margin.

Smith led the way for the Sea Gulls off the bench with a team-high 19 points and game-bests of eight rebounds and three steals.  Witmer scored 14 points, while Jeter and Savercool added 11 points each.  The hosts shot 52% from the floor (28-for-54), 33% from three-point range (7-for-21) and 48% from the foul stripe (12-for-25).  Salisbury held a 38-33 edge on the glass.

Sophomore guard James Drury (Jenkintown, Pa./Germantown Academy) had 20 points to lead Washington and all players, while senior forward Sean Flanigan (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) had a team-best seven boards.  The Shoremen shot 33% from the floor (17-for-51), 27% from three-point land (6-for-22) and 76% from the free throw line (16-for-21).

Both teams turned it over 16 times, while Salisbury held a 31-18 advantage in bench points.

The Shoremen step back into Centennial Conference play on Wednesday night when they travel to Muhlenberg for an 8:00 p.m. game.
