Box Score Brooks Scores Career-High 25 Points in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Visiting Dickinson College shot 54.3% from the field and 81.5% from the free-throw line en route to a 79-69 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory over host Washington College this afternoon inside Cain Athletic Center. The Red Devils improved to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in Centennial Conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 5-14 and 4-8 with the loss.
The two teams exchanged baskets for much of the first half before a 9-0 run by the Red Devils turned a slim 26-24 advantage into a 35-24 cushion. Brandon Angradi capped off that run with a three-pointer, on of his four in the first half, with 4:05 left before the intermission. Dickinson took a 38-27 lead into halftime.
The Red Devils took their biggest lead of the game on a pair of Tom McInerney free throws with 11:38 to play in the second half, giving them a 56-38 lead. Washington then went on a 20-7 run, clawing back to within five points at 63-58on a pair of free throws by freshman guard Bryan Shapiro (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) with 6:08 remaining. Dickinson responded by scoring the next seven points as a lay-up and free throw by Ted Hinnenkamp with 4:13 left extended the advantage to 70-58. The Red Devils led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
Gerry Wixted led Dickinson with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists in the win. Wixted was 10-for-12 at the free-throw line in the game. Angradi added 14 points, while Hinnenkamp finished with 12 points and went 8-of-9 at the line. Adam Honig chipped in 10 points for the victors.
Junior guard Sean Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) poured in a career-high 25 points and dished out five assists to no turnovers in the loss for the Shoremen. Brooks drained five three-pointers in the game. Senior forward Tony Hawkins (Mt. Ephraim, N.J./Haddon Township) contributed 18 points and a pair of blocks for the Shoremen.
Dickinson doubled up Washington on the boards, 42-21, and shot 25-for-46 from the field and 22-for-27 at the line to Washington's 26-for-67 and 6-for-6, respectively. The Shoremen hung around by scoring 18 points off 19 Dickinson turnovers, while the Red Devils scored five points off just five Washington turnovers. The Shoremen went the entire second half without committing a turnover.
The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
