Zachary Novick Wins at No. 6 Singles
EWING, N.J. -- The College of New Jersey, ranked 12th in the Northeast region, improved to 1-2 on the season with an 8-1 non-conference men's tennis victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon. The Shoremen fell to 1-1 with the loss.
The Lions swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Howard Telson and Pierce Cooper were 8-4 winners over junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]) at No. 1, Bill Buchbinder and Mike Stanley topped junior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and freshman Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township), 8-3, at No. 2, and Dan Presto and Gabe Allen beat freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Corey Pippin (Aberdeen, Md./New Covenant Christian School), 8-5, at No. 3.
In singles, Washington picked up its lone point at No. 6 where Zachary Novick beat Ezra Klemo, 6-4, 6-4. Telson beat Rajes, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1, Cooper topped Cywinski, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, Presuto outlasted Holtschneider, 6-0, 5-7, 10-6, at No. 3, Allen beat Joel Novick, 6-1, 3-6, 10-7, at No. 4, and Stanley downed Jeremy Novick, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match at St. Mary's.
