Joel Novick Pulls Out Three-Set Win at No. 3 Singles to Give Shoremen Victory

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Senior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) pulled out a three-set victory at No. 3 singles to lift visiting Washington College, ranked 20th in the Atlantic South region, past host Dickinson, 5-4, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match this afternoon in Carlisle, Pa. 

For the second time in as many matches, the Shoremen (7-5, 4-2 Centennial) found themselves trailing a match, 2-1, after doubles play only to rally for the win. At No. 3 doubles, Dickinson's Ari Blask and Steven Kaplan posted a convincing 8-3 win over Joel Novick and 

freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township). The other two doubles spots both finished with 9-7 scores with each team getting a win. The Red Devils (5-7, 3-3) won at No. 1 as Erik Dinardo and Clark Chapman beat junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]), but Washington junior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and freshman Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) defeated Josh Kaseff and Evan Davis at No. 2.

In singles, Blash was  a 6-3, 6-2, winner over Rajes at No. 1 and Kaseff was a 6-1, 7-5, winner over Zachary Novick at No. 6, but Washington posted four wins in between those two spots. Cywinski downed Chapman, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2, Holtschneider defeated Kaplan, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4, and Jeremy Novick topped John Kneisley, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5. Joel Novick, after dropping his first set against Dinardo, rallied for the 5-7, 6-1, 6-3, victory to win the match for Washington.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference home match against Salisbury.
