Shoremen Clinch Centennial Tournament Berth with 8-1 Win Over Bullets

Cywinski Clinches Win for Shoremen with Victory at No. 2 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Host Washington College, ranked 20th in the Atlantic South region, clinched a spot in the upcoming five-team Centennial Conference Tournament with an 8-1 conference win over visiting Gettysburg today at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen improved to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the win, while the Bullets slipped to 6-7 and 0-6 with the loss.

The Shoremen swept doubles play. Junior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) and senior Marc Cywinski (Brisbane, Australia/Pendleton [Fla.]) beat Dave Musser and Scott Johnson, 8-4, at No. 1, junior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and freshman Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) defeated Mike Pratt and Kevin DeRosa, 8-6, at No. 2, and senior Joel Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) downed Kevin Roveda and Wesley Craft, 8-1, at No. 3.  

Holtschneider opened singles with a 6-1, 6-1, win against Roveda at No. No. 4 and Cywinski clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-4, win over Johnson at No. 2. Rajes added a 7-6(2), 6-2, win against Musser at No. 1 and Joel Novick was a 6-2, 5-7, 12-10, winner over Pratt at No. 3. Craft notched the Bullets' lone point with a 6-2, 6-1, win over senior Hunter Scott (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) at No. 6. Jeremy Novick closed out the match with a 6-2, 7-5, victory against Wiley Vehslage at No. 5. 

This is the eighth time in the nine-year history of the Centennial Conference Tournament that the Shoremen have qualified for the event.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Swarthmore.
