Box Score Drury Scores 20 Points in Loss for Shoremen
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Fourth-ranked Dickinson College improved to 11-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play by stretching its winning streak to eight games via an 88-81 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory over host Washington College tonight inside Cain Athletic Center.
Dickinson shot 50% from the field in the first half to bring a 35-28 lead into the intermission following a lay-up three seconds before the buzzer by Ted Hinnenkamp.
The Red Devils increased the lead to 13 on a Robert Picka lay-up with 16:14 remaining in the second half, giving Dickinson a 45-32 advantage. The Shoremen scored the next nine points to pull within four at 45-41 on a free throw by freshman guard Tas Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Harriton) with 13:41 left. The Red Devils ended the run by scoring the next four points to build a 49-41 lead on a Moses Romocki lay-up with 12:42 to go. Washington scored seven of the next eight points to cut the lead to two at 50-48 on a put-back by junior forward Dave Knox (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) with 9:25 remaining.
Dickinson stopped the Shoremen's run with a 12-2 spurt, capped off by a three-pointer by Brandon Angradi, increasing the Red Devil lead to 62-50 with 5:36 left. The Red Devils then led by at least six points the until a step-back jumper by Washington senior forward Sean Flanigan (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) got the Shoremen to within five at 75-70 with 1:07 to go. The Red Devils shot 13-for-14 from the line the rest of the way, but Washington was within a possession following a three by Morgan with 17 seconds to go to make it 84-81. Free throws by Chris Cox and Angradi provided the final margin.
Hinnenkamp poured in 29 points for the Red Devils, shooting 8-for-11 from the field and 13-for-15 at the charity stripe. He also had six rebounds and four assists in the win. Angradi added 18 points and seven rebounds. Pete Yingst had nine points for Dickinson.
Sophomore guard James Drury (Jenkintown, Pa./Germantown Academy) paced the Shoremen with 20 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and six-of-six shooting at the free-throw line. Morgan scored 17 points for the Shoremen and knocked down five of his nine three-point attempts. Knox had a double-double with 16 points and a game-best 13 rebounds.
The Red Devils shot 52% from the field and 87% from the line (34-for-39) in the game and held a 40-31advantage on the glass. Washington shot 39% from the field, but made 12 three-pointers and went 15-for-18 at the line. The Shoremen turned the ball over 13 times to the Red Devils' 19.
The Shoremen (1-11, 1-4) return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall.
