Shoremen Have Five-Game Win Streak for First Time in 15 Years

Kaliakin Scores One Goal, Assists on Another in 3-1 Victory Over Catholic

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Junior midfielder Dimitri Kaliakin (Landenberg, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) scored one goal and assisted on another as host Washington College defeated visiting Catholic University, 3-1, in a non-conference men's soccer game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The win gives the Shoremen their first five-game winning streak in 15 years.

How It Happened
- Alex Laprade put Catholic on the board at 36:35 with a blast from 30 yards out into the upper left corner off a free kick from Cam Linnville.
- Brian Wilkinson had a breakaway opportunity for Washington in the 39th, but his initial shot was stopped by Zachery Tashjy and a follow-up attempt was blocked by a defender before being scooped up by Tashjy.
- Catholic had an 8-5 edge in shots in the first half, but the Laprade goal and Wilkinson's initial shot in the 39th were the only two on goal. 
- The Shoremen evened things up at 53:04 when Kaliakin took a pass back from Chris Lewandowski and buried it into the upper left of the net from outside the box.
- Michael Holowesko put the Shoremen in front, 2-1, when he headed in a corner kick from Kaliakin at 67:17.
- Brian Graham added an insurance marker for the Shoremen when he scored following a pass ahead from Kevin Sawyer at 84:32.

For the Shoremen (9-5)
- Scorers: Kaliakin (1 goal, 1 assist), Holowesko (1 goal), Graham (1 goal), Lewandowski (1 assist), Sawyer (1 assist)
- Goalkeeper: Josh Samuels (1 saves, 1 goal allowed, 90:00)
- The Shoremen had 14 shots and six corner kicks in the game.

For Catholic (5-9-2)
- Scorers: Laprade (1 goal), Linnville (1 assist)
- Goalkeeper: Tashjy (2 saves, 3 goals allowed, 90:00)
- The Cardinals finished with 11 shots and seven corners.

Notes
- Washington has now won nine games in a season for the first time since 2003.
- The Shoremen last won five consecutive games in October 2000.
- The Shoremen's last win over the Cardinals was a 1-0 victory on October 9th, 2007. The Cardinals had won seven straight against the Shoremen since then.
- Holowesko's goal was his fifth of the season, all off of Kaliakin assists.
