Box Score Weston Totals Team-Bests of 15 Points, Career-High Six Rebounds and Four Assists
BALTIMORE, Md. – Jimmy Hammer totaled game-bests 20 points and eight rebounds for host #13 Johns Hopkins in a 87-58 win over visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays, who will be the top seed in next week's Centennial Conference Tournament, complete the regular season 22-3 overall and 16-2 in the conference. The Shoremen have their season come to a close at 4-21 overall and 4-14 in the CC.
The Shoremen led 21-18 with 6:45 to go in the first half following a layup by sophomore James Drury (Jenkintown, Pa./Germantown Academy) before the Blue Jays closed out the half on a 17-4 run to take a 35-25 lead into halftime. Luke Chambers put the hosts ahead 23-21 with 5:04 left on a lay-in and Ryan Curran capped the first half scoring on a three-pointer with six seconds left to give the hosts a 10-point lead at intermission.
Johns Hopkins scored 20 of the first 29 points of the second half to push its lead to 55-34 with 13:09 to go in the contest on a George Bugarinovic lay-in. The lead for the hosts the rest of the game fluctuated between 14 (63-49) and 31 points, which the Blue Jays achieved on two occasions.
The Blue Jays also got 12 points apiece from Chambers and Gene Williams as the Blue Jays shot 53% from the floor (31-for-58). Hopkins shot 39% from three-point land (7-for-18) and 82% from the foul stripe (18-for-22). The Blue Jays got game-highs of six steals and five assists from Austin Vasiliadis, while Burgarinovic had three blocked shots to lead all players. Johns Hopkins, which held a 41-30 advantage of the boards, outscored Washington in points in the paint (40-28), points off of turnovers (31-6), transition points (10-2) and bench points (38-12).
The Blue Jays turned it over 17 times, while the Shoremen lost the ball 18 times.
Senior guard John Weston (Tampa, Fla./Bolles School) had Shoremen team-highs of 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in his career finale, with the six boards a personal best. Weston and fellow senior, center Connor Silhanek (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) both had two steals each to lead WC. Junior forward Pat Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had 12 points, while senior Sean Flanigan (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) playing in his final game had 10 points and five boards. Washington shot 34% from the floor (21-for-62), 39% from three-point territory (5-for-13) and 69% from the free throw line (11-for-16).
Today marked the final game in a Washington uniform for Flanigan, Silhanek and Weston.
