Shoremen Match Best-Ever Dual Meet Record with Victory

Two Pool Records Fall in 124-74 Win Over McDaniel

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Washington College men's swim team matched its best-ever dual meet record in a season by defeating visiting McDaniel College, 124-74, in a Centennial Conference meet today inside Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen, who broke a pair of pool records in the win, finish their dual meet season 9-1 overall, matching their program-best finish from a year ago, and 5-1 in conference meets. The Green Terror fell to 1-8 and 0-6 with the loss.

Competing inside Casey Swim Center for the final time, senior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) broke the pool record in the 200 freestyle relay by winning the event in a Washington College season-best 1:44.07. He was one of six different Shoremen to win an individual event. Freshman Finny Dorsch (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won the 1000 freestyle in 10:43.86 and was second in the 100 freestyle in 50.45. Junior Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) won the 100 freestyle in 48.90 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.87 to become the Shoremen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Senior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) added a win in the 100 butterfly in a WC season-best 52.10, while junior Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside) took the 100 backstroke in 54.80.

The Shoremen opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in a pool-record time of 3:35.89 turned in by sophomore Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]), freshman Kevin Mackenzie (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]), Lee, and Yocum. Lee, senior Steven Bilinski (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), Longenecker, and Yocum had the fastest 400 freestyle relay time of 3:19.20 as an exhibition entry.
