Shoremen Off to Best Start in Seven Years Following 9-0 Blanking of Green Terror

Shoremen's Shutout Comes in Conference Opener

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Washington College men's tennis team is off to its best start to a season since opening the 2008 campaign with 11 straight wins following a 9-0 victory over visiting McDaniel in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen moved to 5-0 overall on the season with the win, while the Green Terror dropped to 2-4 with the loss.

In doubles, senior Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and senior Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) beat Satchel McCarthy, 8-4, at No. 1. Senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) were 8-4 winners against Daniel Xinis and Philip Jorgensen at No. 2, while sophomore Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek) bested Ryan Salomon and Will Giles, 8-3, at No. 3.

Holtschneider and Panepinto won the first two singles matches to finish as Washington clinched the victory. Holtschneider downed Jorgensen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, while Panepinto beat Corey Glocker, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6. Zachary Novick then finished a 6-2, 6-2, win over Giles at No. 5. Rajes added a 6-1, 6-2, win against McFall at No. 1, while Jeremy Novick beat Salomon, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 4. Boaté completed the sweep with his 6-0, 6-4, win against McCarthy at No. 2. 

The Shoremen are back in action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match at York (Pa.).
