Diplomats Double Up Shoremen, 6-3

Z. Novick, Panepinto Each Go 2-0 for Shoremen in Loss

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Host Franklin & Marshall, the 11th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, handed visiting Washington College its first loss of the season, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match this afternoon in Lancaster. The Diplomats improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 6-1 and 1-1 with the loss.

The Diplomats won at the top two doubles spots. Doug Kaplan and Jack Rothman rolled to an 8-1 win over Seniors Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's) at No. 1, while Vasant Rajamanickam and Nolan Bacchieri defeated senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township), 8-3, at No. 2. Sophomore Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek) picked up a win for the Shoremen at No. 3, pulling out a 9-8(3) win against Evan Drapeau and Will Samuels at No. 3. 

In singles, Kaplan, ranked 16th in the region in singles, beat Rajes, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1, while Bacchieri beat Boaté, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Rothman added a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3, while Samuels downed Jeremy Novick, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4. The Shoremen won at the final two singles spots as Zachary Novick was a 6-2, 6-7(1), 10-3, winner against Rajamanickam at No. 5 and Panepinto downed Hamza Pataudi, 7-6(5), 1-6, 10-2, at No. 6.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Haverford.
