Fords Trump Shoremen, 7-2

Panepinto Wins in Singles, J. Novick/Holtschneider in Doubles

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Host Haverford College, the 15th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, improved to 5-2 overall and remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference play at 3-0 with an 8-1 men's tennis win over visiting Washington College this afternoon. The Shoremen dropped to 6-2 and 1-2 with the loss.

In doubles, Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert defeated Washington seniors Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's), 8-5, at No. 1, while Caleb Mayer and Eli Phelps topped sophomore Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek), 9-7, at No. 3. Washington grabbed a point at No. 2 as senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) pulled out a 9-8(4) victory against Dais Nakayama and Ishaan Prinz.

The Fords won at the top five singles spots. Nakayama bested Rajes, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1, while Zack Mason got the better of Boaté, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 and Elbert cruised past Holtschneider, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3. Prinz added a 6-1, 6-2, win against Jeremy Novick at No. 4, while Mayer beat Zachary Novick, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Panepinto picked up the Shoremen's second point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4, win against Benjamin Soloway at No. 6.

The Shoremen return to action Friday with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference home match against St. Mary's.
