Shoremen Deflect Bullets, 7-2

Rajes Wins Fourth Straight Match at No. 1 Singles

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Visiting Washington College won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches en route to a 7-2 Centennial Conference men's tennis win over host Gettysburg this afternoon. The Shoremen improved to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the win, while the Bullets dropped to 3-8 and 0-7 with the loss.

Senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) scored an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Christian Deschapelles and Wiley Vehslage at No. 2, while sophomore Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek) teamed for an 8-6 victory against Aiden Egglin and Kevin DeRosa at No. 3. Gettysburg picked up a win at No. 1 as Wes Craft and Dave Musser bested seniors Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's), 8-0.

In singles play, Rajes won his fourth straight match at No. 1, getting past Musser, 7-5, 7-5, while Boaté downed Craft, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Jeremy Novick won against DeRosa, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4, while twin brother Zachary won by the same score over Vehslage at No. 5. Panepinto rallied for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0, win at No. 6. Deschappelles scored the Bullets' second point with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 defeat of Holtschneider at No. 3.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Swarthmore.
