ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Washington College sailing team finished 19th of 20 teams at the Navy Spring this weekend in Annapolis. Fifth-ranked Georgetown won the regatta, followed by second-ranked Yale in second and fourth-ranked Stanford in third.
Junior skipper Eric Siegel (Kilmarnock, Va./Christchurch School) sailed with freshman crews Lindsey Arnstein (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and Griff Rodrigue (Fort Mills, S.C./Charlotte Catholic [N.C.]) for Washington in A Division, finishing 19th. In B Division, sophomore skipper Hannah Schmidt (Trappe, Md./Easton) and freshman crew Maura Matthews (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) combined with sophomore skipper Alex Smith (Wantagh, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur) and freshman crew Allison Cochran (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) to place 18th.
A fickle wind on an otherwise gorgeous spring day limited racing on Saturday, but Sunday's races sailed in an 8-12 knot, increasing to 13-20 knot, easterly breeze. A total of 15 races in each division were completed at the regatta.
Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at the Boston Dinghy Cup, hosted by Harvard and MIT, and the MAISA Women's Spring Dinghy Championships, hosted by St. Mary's.
