Shoremen Two Times Better Than Bears in 6-3 Win

Z. Novick Clinches Victory with Win at No. 5 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Washington College men's tennis team improved to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in Centennial Conference play with a 6-3 win over visiting Ursinus this afternoon inside the Johnson Fitness Center. The Bears dropped to 8-7 and 0-4 with the loss.

The Shoremen took a 1-0 lead thanks to an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles by sophomore Zachary Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Justin Panepinto (Cary, N.C./Middle Creek) against Peter Shields and Mike Melchiorre. Ursinus evened the score when Caleb Kramer and Tyler Arsenault finished an 8-4 victory at No. 1 over WC seniors Dan Boaté (West Chester, Pa./Reed Henderson) and Vishnu Rajes (Yercaud, India/St. John's). Washington claimed a 2-1 lead when senior Ryan Holtschneider (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore Jeremy Novick (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) finished off an 8-5 triumph over Henry Burke and Dalton Lynch at No. 2.

Rajes extended the Shoremen's lead to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-3, win against Kramer at No. 1 singles. Holtschneider made it 4-1 with a 7-5, 6-0, victory over Burke at No. 3. Arsenault then picked up a win for the Bears with a 6-7, 6-1, 10-3, defeat of Boaté at No. 2. Zachary Novick clinched the victory for the Shoremen with his 6-2, 6-1, win over Shields at No. 5. Panepinto tacked on a 6-4, 6-0, win against Melchiorre at No. 6 for the Shoremen's sixth point before Lynch provided the final margin with his 7-5, 6-3, win against Jeremy Novick at No. 4. 

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Dickinson.
