Mules Use Strong Second Half To Get Past Shoremen, 73-64

Shelton Scores 16 Points To Lead Shoremen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Muhlenberg outscored host Washington College in the second half, 44-30, to turn a 34-29 deficit into a 73-64 win at the Cain Athletic Center in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game on Thursday evening.

How It Happened
-The Shoremen jumped out to a 15-9 lead with 13:41 to go in the first half on a conventional three-point play by Aaron Geschwilm as he rebounded a missed three-pointer and was fouled on his made layup.
-Muhlenberg would answer to tie the game at 18-18 with 9:17 remaining in the first on a Sam McClellan layup.
-With the score tied at 20-20, Washington would score 14 of the next 20 points to take its biggest lead of the game at 34-26 with 3:10 remaining on a three-pointer by Clay Smith.  The hosts took a 34-29 lead into halftime.
-The Mules would take their first lead since early in the first half at 43-42 on a Brandon Larose jumper with 14:03 to go in the second half.  The Larose make ignited an 11-1 run as Muhlenberg led 52-44 with 11:44 left on two free throws by Larose.
-Washington would cut the lead to 53-52 with 8:39 left on a triple by Jordan Owens
-Leading 55-54 with 7:13 to go, the Mules would go on a 16-5 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 71-59 with 44 seconds to go on a Jon Schreer free throw.  During the run, Muhlenberg held the Shoremen to just one field goal.

For The Shoremen (2-10, 0-6 CC)
-Joey Shelton (team-high 16 points and career-best four three-pointers made), Dave Knox (10 points and game-high nine rebounds), Tas Dixon (game-best five assists).
-Shoremen outscored the Mules in bench points by a 31-12 margin and had 12 turnovers on the night.
-Washington shot 36% (21-for-58) from the floor, 39% (12-for-31) from three-point range and 71% (10-for-14) from the foul line.

For Muhlenberg (7-6, 4-3 CC)
-Nick Rindock (game-best 19 points and team-high eight boards), Jeanlee Baez (14 points), John Hunter (12 points), Larose (four assists).
-The Mules outrebounded the Shoremen, 34-27, despite not grabbing an offensive rebound in the first half.  Outscored WC in points in the paint (28-14) and points off of turnovers (14-12).
-Muhlenberg turned it over 16 times.
-The guests shot 56% (23-for-41) from the floor, 29% (4-for-14) from beyond the arc and 72% (23-for-32) from the free throw stripe.

Notes
-Washington in its two home games this season has connected on 26 three-pointers in 65 attempts for a 40% clip.
