Drury Scores Career-High 26 Points, Dixon Pulls Down Career-Best Seven Rebounds To Go With 17 Points, McCormick Sets Scoring Best With 15 Points and Smith Tallies Personal-High 14 Points

BALTIMORE, Md. – Visiting Washington College got a career-high and game-best 26 points from junior guard James Drury (Jenkintown, Pa./Germantown Academy) and outscored host Johns Hopkins 24-10 in the last 7:57 of the ball game to come away with an 86-80 victory at Goldfarb Gym in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
-The Shoremen jumped out to a 25-9 lead just 8:48 into the game on a pair of free throws by Drury.
-Trailing 27-11 with 10:15 to go in the first half, the Blue Jays answered with a 23-6 run of their own to take a 34-33 lead with 2:55 remaining on a three-pointer by Gene Williams.
-After Kevin McCormick canned a triple to give Washington the lead back at 36-34 with 2:44 to go in the half, Johns Hopkins outscored WC 9-2 the rest of the half to take a 43-38 lead into halftime.  Williams rounded out the first half scoring with a jumper with 26 ticks to go.
-Up 54-52 with 15:26 left in the second half, the Blue Jays would score 16 of the next 26 points to take a 70-62 lead with 7:57 to go on a Matt Billups hoop.
-The Shoremen would answer with a 9-1 run of their own to level the game at 71-71 with 4:14 to go on a second-chance layup by Brandon Berry.
-Ryan Curran would give the hosts a 73-71 lead with 4:02 left, Tas Dixon would give Washington its first lead since 36-34 on a traditional three-point play with 3:47 remaining at 74-73.
-After a Blue Jays free throw, the Shoremen scored the next five points to take a 79-74 lead with 2:11 remaining on a Drury conventional three-point play.
-Curran would cut the WC lead to 79-77 on a conventional three-point play of his own with 1:55 to go, before the Shoremen got two free throws from Dixon with 1:12 left to make it 81-77.  Dixon then would steal a Hopkins pass with 48 ticks to go and eight seconds later Berry was fouled and drained both from the line to make it 83-77.
-Williams would make a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to cut the WC lead to 83-80.  The Blue Jays fouled Drury five seconds later and he would make one-of-two from the foul line to make it 84-80.
-With 11 seconds left, the Blue Jays turned it over on a backcourt violation as McCormick forced Hopkins into the backcourt.  He deflected a pass and Williams recovered the ball for Hopkins, but he stepped on the midline to turn it over.  Dixon would provide the final margin on a breakaway layup with eight ticks to go.

For The Shoremen (3-14, 1-9 CC)
-Drury (career-high and game-best 26 points), Dixon (17 points and game-best seven assists to tie career-high in both categories to go with a game-high three steals and also tied for team-best in rebounds with five), McCormick (15 points to set career-best), Smith (personal-best 14 points), Berry (five boards to set career-high), Williams (five rebounds)
-Washington shot 47% (30-for-63) form the floor, 39% from behind the arc (9-for-23) and 77% (17-for-22) from the foul line.

For Johns Hopkins (8-9, 5-5 CC)
-Williams (team-best 24 points), Curran (11 points and contest-best 11 rebounds for a double-double), Billups (10 points), Sam Gordon (10 points)
-The Blue Jays shot 51% from the floor (32-for-63), 18% from three-point range (4-for-22) and 52% from the foul line (12-for-23).
-Johns Hopkins outrebounded Washington 43-29, but turned it over five more times than the Shoremen did, 18-13.

Notes
-The win snaps a six-game losing streak to the Blue Jays and an eight-game losing streak overall. 
-Washington's last win over Johns Hopkins was on February 22, 2012, 56-53, in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament.  Current Johns Hopkins assistant coach, Kevin Breslin '12, put WC up for good in that game with 1:00 left on a three-pointer to give the Shoremen a 52-51 lead as he scored a game-best 17 points.
-Since the 2008-09 season, the Shoremen have won five times over Johns Hopkins at Goldfarb Gym.
