Wilkinson's Free Kick Lifts Shoremen To 2-1 Win Over McDaniel

First Back-To-Back Wins Over McDaniel In 13 Years

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Brian Wilkinson scored what would be the game winning goal on a free kick with 23 seconds to go to lift visiting Washington College to a come from behind 2-1 win over McDaniel in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game this afternoon played at the Green Terror Soccer Complex. The Shoremen improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in CC play with the win, while the Green Terror fall to 2-4-2 and 0-2-1 in the CC with the loss.

How It Happened
- Griffin Bull put the first shot on goal for the Shoremen 6:54 into the game, but it was saved by McDaniel keeper Nick Over.
- McDaniel grabbed the 1-0 lead at the 15:44 mark when Pat Palin scored on the only McDaniel shot on goal of the half.
- Dimitri Kaliakin came close to tying the game with 5:52 to go in the half, but his shot hit the crossbar.
- Washington held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the first half, putting five of them on goal.
-The Shoremen tied the game 1-1 with 21:40 to play when Michael Holowesko knocked home his first goal of the season off of a corner kick assist from Kaliakin.
-McDaniel had a chance to take the lead back with 1:14 to go, but a shot from Nick Cavasina was saved by a diving Josh Samuels on the left post.
-Wilkinson then won the game for the Shoremen with 23 seconds to play, scoring a free kick goal from just on the edge of the box to lift the Shoremen to the 2-1 win.

For the Shoremen (4-5-1, 2-1-1 CC)
- Scorers: Holowesko (1 goal), Wilkinson (1 goal), Kaliakin (1 assist)
- Goalkeeper: Samuels (1 save, 1 goal allowed, 90:00).
- The Shoremen fired off 23 shots in the win and also drew 11 corner kicks.

For McDaniel (2-4-2, 0-2-1 CC)
- Scorers: Palin (1 goal).
- Goalkeeper: Over (10 saves, 2 goals allowed, 90:00).
- The Green Terror took four shots in the loss and drew three corner kicks. McDaniel also registered a team save in addition to the 10 saves from Over.

Notes
- With the win, Washington has now won back-to-back games over McDaniel for the first time since the 2002 and 2003 seasons. The Shoremen also posted a 2-1 win over McDaniel last season at home.
- The Shoremen are unbeaten in their last five contests against the Green Terror dating back to 2011, as the team also beat McDaniel 2-0 in 2012, then tied 1-1 in 2013 and 2-2 in 2014.
- Wilkinson has scored a goal in three consecutive games against the Green Terror.
-All six of Holowesko's goals last season came off of assists from Kaliakin.
-Kaliakin's assist was the 22nd assist of his career, tying him with Andrew King '96 and T.J. Velykis '02 for third on the Shoremen all time record list.
