Shoremen Rally for Dramatic 3-2 Overtime Win Over Ursinus

Gaeffke Ties Game in 90th Minute, Lewandowski Scores Game-Winner in 99th Minute

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Sophomore forward Kyle Gaeffke (Haverford, Pa./Harriton) scored the game-tying goal in the 90th minute and senior forward Chris Lewandowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) scored the game-winner in the 99th as host Washington College rallied from a 2-0 deficit to post a 3-2 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over visiting Ursinus in overtime this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

How It Happened
- The Bears took a 1-0 lead at the 7:39 mark when Ryan Molyneaux headed in a free kick sent from beyond midfield by Justin Molyneaux.
- The Shoremen then fired off seven shots on goal trying to even the score, but Ursinus goalkeeper Vince Maiorino made seven saves to keep them off the board.
- Ursinus picked up its second goal of the first half when Ben Amaral scored on a ball sent ahead in transition by Derek Rudy at 30:06.
- The Shoremen got one goal back at the 32:32 mark when Griffin Bull scored after Maiorino punched away a free-kick cross attempt and Bull booted the ball from outside the box.
- Gaeffke got behind Maiorino for a shot in the 35th, but Alex Sanger blocked his attempt for an Ursinus team save.
- Brian Wilkinson had a breakaway chance in the 59th for the Shoremen, but Maiorino came up to meet him and stopped the shot off Wilkinson's foot.
- Wilkinson hit the far post on a corner kick in the 72nd minute and Gaeffke had a shot saved by a diving Maiorino in the 79th.
- Gaeffke tied the game with 56.1 seconds left in regulation when he sent a rebound of a shot from Wilkinson saved by Maiorino into the lower left corner.
- Lewandowski's game-winner came at the 98:21 mark when he headed a ball sent by Dimitri Kaliakin on a free kick into the left side of the goal from eight years out.

For the Shoremen (7-5-1, 4-1-1 Centennial Conference)
- Scorers: Bull (1 goal), Gaeffke (1 goal), Lewandowski (1 goal), Wilkinson (1 assist)
- Goalkeepers: Jonathan Wendeborn (1 save, 2 goals allowed, 38:08), Josh Samuels (0 saves, 0 goals allowed, 51:52)
- The Shoremen peppered Ursinus with 28 shots in the game, 17 of them on goal. They also had all five of the game's corner kicks.

For Ursinus (4-8, 0-6 Centennial Conference)
- Scorers: R. Molyneaux (1 goal), Amaral (1 goal), J. Molyneaux (1 assist), Rudy (1 assist)
- Goalkeeper: Vince Maiorino (13 saves, 3 goals allowed, 90:00)
- The Bears had seven shots in the game, three of them on goal.

Notes
- Kaliakin's assist was the 26th of his collegiate career, moving him within one of the school record held by Bill Williams '76
- By improving to 4-1-1 in conference play, the Shoremen clinched their best Centennial Conference record in a season since a 4-3-2 mark in 2003.
