Kawabata Tosses Three Scoreless Innings Versus Rowan

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Washington College softball team dropped a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday afternoon in a pair of non-conference softball games.  In the opening game of the day, Skidmore rallied from a 5-1 deficit to post a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Shorewomen and in game two Rowan downed WC, 7-0.

How It Happened
-The Shorewomen came out with two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-out single to left field by Meredith Maynard that plated both Clare Hofstedt and Elaina DiPrimio.
-In the last of the first, the Thoroughbreds cut the lead to 2-1 when Dani DeGregory scored on a fielding error with nobody out.
-WC scored two more times to take a 4-1 lead in the top of the second.  With one out, Hofstedt tripled to left to drive in Gabrielle Edwards to make it 3-1 and Hofstedt scored on a Paige Briganti base hit to center to give Washington a three-run lead.
-The Shorewomen would extend their lead to 5-1 with a run in the top of the sixth on a single up the middle by Elaina DiPrimio that scored Trish Langley.
-Skidmore would rally to tie the game with four runs in the bottom half of the sixth.  Karly Fishkin scored on a single to center by Lauren Fortunato to cut the lead to 5-2 with nobody out.  Two batters later, Kristina Foley scored on a groundout to second off the bat of Cassie Fishkin to trim the lead to 5-3.  The next hitter, Jill Strileckis grounded out to second for the second out, but it got Fortunato home to trim the lead to 5-4.  The Thoroughbreds would tie the game when the next batter, Lila Rosenfeld hit a bleeder up the middle that scored May-Lin McEvoy to tie the game.
-Washington got a runner to second in the top of the seventh, but did not score.
-Skidmore won the game two batters into the last of the seventh.  DeGregory led off the frame with an infield single to shortstop and then would score all the way from first on a double to left off the bat of Karly Fishkin to complete the comeback and give Skidmore the 6-5 win.

For The Shorewomen (5-6)
-Hitting: DiPrimio (3-for-4, RBI, run), Hofstedt (two runs), Maynard (two RBI)
-Pitching: Taylor Harcum (loss 2-3, two hits, one earned run in the bottom of the seventh, did not retire a batter), Alexis Layton (six innings, seven hits, five earned runs, two walks, six strikeouts)
-WC had seven hits, drew three walks and let nine on base.
-The defense committed one error.

For Skidmore (2-3)
-Hitting: Karly Fishkin (3-for-4, game-winning RBI), DeGregory (2-for-3, two runs, walk), Fortunato (2-for-3)
-Pitching: Amanda Carilli (win 2-1, complete game, seven hits, five runs, two earned, three walks, two strikeouts)
-The Thoroughbreds had nine hits and worked out a pair of walks while leaving just four base.
-Skidmore won in spite of committing five errors which led to three unearned runs for WC.

Notes
-DiPrimio now has five games this year of multiple hits.

Rowan 7 Washington College 0

How It Happened
-The Profs got all the runs they needed in the top half of the first with two.  Shilah Snead scored on a no out double by Mia Baldassari and Baldassari came home on a one-out sacrifice fly by Morgan Smith to make it 2-0.
-Rowan scored a single run in the top of the second when Carly Anderson scored on a two out fielding error by WC.
-A four-run fourth for the Profs rounded out the scoring in the game.

For the Shorewomen (5-7)
-Hitting: Harcum (2-for-3)
-Pitching: Harcum (loss 2-5, four innings, seven runs, three earned, one walk, three strikeouts and six hits), Milly Kawabata (three scoreless innings of relief, two walks and three punchouts)
-Washington was held to five hits in the game and left five on base.  WC did not draw a walk.
-Three errors by the Shorewomen led to four unearned runs for Rowan.

For Rowan (9-5)
-Hitting: Anderson (two runs), Palotti (two RBI), six different Profs scored a run in the win.
-Pitcing: Mackenzie Juodaitis (win 2-2, two innings, two strikeouts), Allison Nolan (three innings, two hits, one strikeout), Ashley Lesch (two innings, three hits, one strikeout)
-The Profs had six hits and worked out three walks.  One Rowan player reached base via hit by pitch.
-Rowan did not commit an error in the game.

Notes
-Kawabata tossed a career-high three innings in the game.
