Difference Between First and Second Places is Under One Second in Six Races
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The second relay pool record of the meet, coming in the final event, propelled the host Washington College men's swim team past Ursinus, 133-129, in a thrilling Centennial Conference swim meet this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center.

Shoremen Highlights
- Karl Melchior, Aidan Sullivan, Cody Weiler, and Kevin Mackenzie won the 200 freestyle relay, the meet's final event, in a Casey Swim Center record time of 1:27.39. That time edged out Ursinus by 16 one-hundredths of a second, one of six races where the difference between first and second place was less than one second.
- The Shoremen opened the meet with a 3:34.46 winning and pool record time in the 400 medley relay. Sullivan, Mackenzie, Ty Cummings, and Weiler finished the race one half-second before the Bears.
- Mackenzie won the 100 breaststroke in 59.75 and the 100 freestyle in 48.23, taking the latter by just five one-hundredths of a second.
- Elliott won the 1000 freestyle in 9:58.27 and the 500 freestyle in 4:50.39. He was also second in the 100 backstroke in 56.49.
- Sullivan won the 100 butterfly in 52.97, 82 one-hundredths of a second better than Cummings, who finished second. He was also second in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.70 to become the Shoremen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. That time was just six-tenths of a second off of first place. His lead-off time of 53.91 in the 400 medley relay made him the Shoremen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 backstroke.
- Cummings won the 200 butterfly in 2:00.70, taking first place by just 12 one-hundredths of a second.
- Sauter won the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.83 and was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:02.37 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.26.
- Weiler won the 50 freestyle in 21.71, one half-second better than the second-place finisher from Ursinus.
Notes
- The Shoremen improved to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in conference meets with the win. The Bears fell to 5-3 and 3-3 with the loss.
