Washington Holds McDaniel To 19 Second Half Points In 49-44 Comeback Win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College held visiting McDaniel to just 19 points in the second half to overcome a 25-20 halftime deficit on its way to a 49-44 victory on Wednesday evening in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game at the Cain Athletic Center.  The 44 points allowed by the Shoremen are the fewest allowed in a home game in 26 years when they allowed just 39 in an 88-39 triumph over Haverford on January 26, 1991.

Washington College 49 McDaniel 44

How It Happened
- Leading 8-5 with 15:40 left in the first half, the Green Terror went on a 13-0 run to take a 21-5 lead with 8:35 remaining on a Austin Cannon layup.  The 16-point cushion was the biggest for either team in the game.
- Washington would counter with a 12-0 run of its own to trim the McDaniel lead to 21-17 with 4:32 to go in the opening stanza on a Steve Low three-point bucket.
- The Green Terror would take a 25-20 lead into halftime.
- The Shoremen would take their first lead of the contest with 15:21 to go in the second half on a lay-in by Alec Lewis that was part of a 15-4 run to opening the second.  The run was capped by a James Drury triple that gave WC a 35-29 lead with 12:57 to go.
- With the score level at 37-37 following an 8-2 spurt by McDaniel, Dallas Marshall grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled on his layup attempt.  Marshall sank both free throws to give the hosts a 39-37 lead with 5:41 to go and it was a lead they would never give up.
- Steve Low netted a three with 3:56 left from the top left side of the arc to put the Shoremen ahead 44-37.  The seven-point lead was the team's biggest of the night.
- McDaniel would score seven of the next nine points to trim the lead to 46-44 with 33 seconds left on a Josh McWilliams three.
- The Green Terror would foul Lewis with 24 ticks left and Lewis made 1-of-2 from the line to make it 47-44 Shoremen.
- On McDaniel's next possession, the Shoremen defense forced Cannon into a three-pointer from the right corner with six ticks left and the shot was off the mark.  Marshall ended up with the board and was fouled with 1.5 seconds to go.  Marshall drained both from the charity stripe to seal the deal.
