#37 Garnet Turn Away Shoremen, 8-1

J. Novick & Weaver Win at No. 2 Singles for Shoremen

SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Host Swarthmore College, ranked 37th in Division III and ninth in the Atlantic South region improved to 8-9 overall and remained perfect at 5-0 in Centennial Conference matches with an 8-1 win over visiting Washington College in league men's tennis action this afternoon. The Shoremen, ranked 20th in the region, fell to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Centennial play with the loss.

Doubles
- The Garnet tandem of Mark Fallati and Josh Powell, ranked sixth in the region in doubles, cruised to an 8-2 win over Chris Salisbury and Jake Sandler at No. 1.
- Swarthmore's lead moved to 2-0 thanks to an 8-6 win by John Larkin and Blake Oetting against Zack Novick and Justin Panepinto at No. 3.
- Washington got on the board with an 8-5 win at No. 2 by Jeremy Novick and Luke Weaver against Simon Vernier and Ari Cepelewicz

Singles
- Powell opened singles with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Zack Novick at No. 4. Cepelewicz then added a 6-2, 6-2, victory against Jeremy Novick at No. 5 and Michael Song clinched the Garnet's win via his 6-0, 6-2, triumph against August Meriot at No. 6.
- Fallati, ranked 11th in the region in singles, bested Salisbury, 6-1, 6-2, while Vernier edged Weaver, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5, at No. 3.
- The last match to finish was No. 2, where Larkin, ranked 22nd in the region, pulled out a nail-biting 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 10-6, win over Sandler.
